Gega Kutateladze "Gega Kutateli"

Living dates : 1979 - Present

Nationality : Georgian

Gega Kutateladze (also known as Gega Kutateli) is a contemporary Georgian visual artist whose practice spans painting, objects, and mixed media. He began drawing in childhood, continued his education at the Nikoloz Art School, and later studied painting at the Nikolozishvili Art College. In 2003, he graduated from the Faculty of Graphics at the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts, while also acquiring skills in graphic design. These formative experiences shaped a visual language that merges academic knowledge with experimental approaches.

His artistic style is characterized by a minimalist figurative language and the integration of diverse materials such as neon, plaster, cardboard, glass, and metal. Kutateladze’s works are notable for their exploration of solitude, melancholy, existential tension, and irony. Anonymous figures often appear with their backs turned, immersed in sparse, empty environments, while the sky becomes a recurring symbol of renewal and possibility. This interplay of emptiness and chaos forms a striking contrast that defines much of his work.

Kutateladze’s conceptual painting draws inspiration from Pop Art and American Realism, reinterpreted through a distinctly personal lens. His narratives are at once poetic and ironic, reflecting on contemporary urban life and ecological awareness. A central theme in his work is the relationship between humans, nature, and technology — how these forces collide, merge, and reshape each other in a rapidly changing world. His projects frequently address questions of identity, alienation, and the search for meaning within modern society.

The solo exhibition Welcome to Earth (2021, Dédicace Gallery) stands as a key milestone, presenting a body of work focused on the future of technology and its dialogue with the environment. This project emphasized how art can serve as a bridge between reality and imagination, mapping emotional territories where humanity, ecology, and innovation converge. In addition to solo exhibitions, Kutateladze has actively collaborated with international artist groups such as On/Off, underlining his interest in collective formats and site-specific artistic interventions.
