View workBeka Sakvarelidze is a contemporary Georgian painter living and working in Tbilisi. He studied at Tbilisi State Academy of Arts, where from 2010 to 2016 he completed both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Painting. Since graduation he has continued his affiliation with the Academy as an invited professor. He is also a member of the art group Colorful Cabriolet and serves as Artistic Director of the international exhibition project Kultura.Synchron in Dresden, Germany.
Sakvarelidze has achieved recognition early in his career: he received the Canaletto Prize (Dresden) in 2018 and 2020, and the Giraffe Award (Tbilisi) in 2017 as “best young visual artist”. His exhibition history is broad and international: he has participated in group and solo exhibitions across Europe and Asia — from Germany and Italy to China — and in Georgia he has been featured in major venues. Among his notable solo shows is “Someone Is Stirring” at the Georgian National Gallery in 2023–2024.
Artistically, Sakvarelidze’s work is characterized by expressive intensity and emotional commitment. In interviews, he describes his creative process as “impulsive,” demanding both “emotional and physical effort,” and often challenging but necessary to give form to his internal impulses. His paintings range across styles and media, yet they share a sensibility grounded in raw energy and honesty rather than purely decorative aims.
Sakvarelidze’s art resonates because it balances personal introspection with broader cultural and conceptual ambition. His works evoke a sense of inner movement — stirring memories, emotions, existential questions — rather than offering fixed narratives. In a gallery context, his paintings demand active engagement: they do not simply depict but provoke reflection, inviting the viewer to confront the tension between stability and flux, identity and transformation.
