Archil Kordzaia

Nationality : Georgian

Archil Kordzaia is a contemporary Georgian painter whose artistic path began in early childhood, long before formal training defined his direction. Drawing was a natural and intuitive practice for him, gradually becoming the primary language through which he explored the world. Recognizing this inclination, his parents guided him toward an art technical school, a decisive step that redirected his personal and professional trajectory. Although traditional schooling held little appeal for him, the technical school environment proved formative, instilling discipline while nurturing his creative instincts.

The years spent at the art technical school played a crucial role in shaping Kordzaia’s artistic identity. There, he gained a solid foundation in classical techniques, materials, and visual thinking, while also developing confidence in his individual expression. This period marked a turning point: art evolved from an instinctive activity into a conscious vocation, influencing both his worldview and his approach to painting.

Kordzaia later continued his education at the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts, where he studied for two years. However, the rigid academic framework did not fully align with his creative interests or temperament. Seeking greater freedom and hands-on experience, he chose to step outside institutional boundaries. Over the following two years, he worked in various independent studios, an experience that proved essential to his maturation as an artist. These workshops allowed him to refine his visual language, experiment with form and technique, and develop a more personal, self-directed practice.

Among the most significant chapters of his professional career are collaborative projects realized in a film studio workshop environment. Working alongside approximately fifteen artists, Kordzaia participated in the creation of two major projects, gaining valuable experience in large-scale, collective artistic processes and interdisciplinary collaboration. This period expanded his understanding of composition, narrative space, and the relationship between art and environment.

Kordzaia’s presence within the contemporary Georgian art scene has been further solidified through his collaboration with Dedika Gallery, where both group and solo exhibitions of his work have been presented. His paintings are distinguished by a strong sense of individuality, expressive depth, and a balance between intuition and structure. Through his evolving body of work, Archil Kordzaia continues to assert himself as an artist whose value lies not only in technical skill, but in an authentic, continuously developing visual voice that resonates with contemporary audiences and collectors alike.
